I get it. The hassle of scheduling another appointment at another office is worse than the reassurance a second opinion provides.
With my second opinion services, now you get the best of both worlds. We’ll chat about your current situation via phone or video. A referral is not required and I often have next-day appointments available. I’ll request medical records from other providers to gain a comprehensive view into your situation.
You can expect two results from this session:
Understanding of the best path forward.
Recommended changes to your ongoing plan.
-
A classic way to see a physical therapist: payment for my time. This includes, but is not limited to:
An evaluation of your current struggles
A road map to get your desired outcome
Questions related to your current limitations
Return to sport testing
Individuals best suited for this option are:
Self-motivated
Only need 1-3 sessions
Looking for an answer or diagnosis
Comfortable rehabbing independently
This session is scalable and can be pro-rated to match a shorter or longer session duration. (i.e. 45 minutes = $187.50)
-
Take the uncertainty out of your physical therapy journey. You’ll know the cost of your care upfront based on the expected timeline with no surprise bills. I can provide a superbill for each scheduled session we have, whether in-person or via telehealth, to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
What you’ll receive:
An initial evaluation (first month only)
One follow-up session per month
Unlimited communication via chat/email
A progressive plan towards your goals

Unlimited email and messaging access.
No cap on visits
A time estimate on your full recovery timeline
You pay for your outcome, not my time

"I was introduced to John as a PT when I first started running. I developed new runner overuse issues and John helped me physically and mentally to overcome my issues and complete my first half marathon. Fast forward through a hyperextended knee (due to a friend’s loving dog) and a possible fractured patella from trail running. Whenever I showed up with whatever I’d done, John always treated me with care that not only helped me heal the injury but helped to make me overall stronger and more confident. My last injury, a fractured elbow that required surgery was my worst. John didn’t sugar coat the amount of time he would need to work with me for me to try to return to my life with a functioning elbow. While I waited to begin the rehab, John helped me to begin my recovery with assistance on things I could do until given the okay of my orthopedic surgeon. This helped me not to feel powerless and unable to do things I wanted to do. John carefully guided me through my recovery during our PT sessions and provided me guidance on work I needed to do at home to keep my recovery moving forward. With his excellent guidance, I was released by my orthopedic surgeon in only 6 weeks and completed my PT sessions with John in only about two and one half months. I was originally told my recovery would most likely be 6-9 months or longer. I am so pleased that I have full flexion and full extension on my arm and have gained back nearly all of my previous strength. I would not be where I am today without the care and attention to detail John provided me."

“John is a shining example of what a physical therapist should be. His approach to patients is courteous, thorough, clear and positive. He applies his skills in an unrushed manner and proceeds through his program in a progressive way that allows his patients to see progress with each visit. He is firm enough to produce results with the minimal amount of screaming, LOL. He is engaging in a way that makes seeing him very pleasant in spite of the rigors of his regimen.
I can not provide a higher recommendation for any health care provider and wish him well in his new path.”

“As much as I credit my surgeon for making recovering from my ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair an easy process, he was only half of the battle. With John's guidance not only through PT with my knee, but also mentally to help keep my goals reasonable and my morale up during the whole recovery, he helped me to a full and confident recovery and return to competitive soccer. I appreciated his willingness to answer any questions I had and send me research that he was basing his therapy techniques on. Having the ability to have engaging discussions on why we were doing certain exercises, or why the recovery timeline was the way it was helped me to be an active participant in my recovery rather than a passenger just being told what to do. Since completing my therapy with him, I have had no issues with my knee and I believe this is because he tailored my physical therapy to me, rather than just sticking to a script.”

“I cannot recommend John Wehrer as a physical therapist highly enough. He was a tremendous help to me twice in the past few years. The first time he guided me through recovery of a fibular stress fracture (a new injury). The second time was for a decades old chronic lower back pain problem that had become unbearable. Throughout treatment for both injuries (one pretty straightforward and one more complex), John was incredible. He taught me new exercises and strategies to help manage my chronic condition. His knowledge, patience, excellent communication skills, kindness, and encouragement were invaluable in answering all of my endless questions, helping me get through some rough patches, and develop a regular exercise routine that has given me greater mobility and flexibility, and a lot less pain. Thank you so very very much John!”

“Roughly 1.5 years post proximal hamstring tendon repair, I felt my progress in regaining hamstring strength had stalled. We tested both hamstrings and learned there was a significant strength imbalance and both hamstrings were weak enough to put me at an elevated risk for injury. John constructed a plan built to not only balance the healthy and repaired sides, but also improve strength overall. He listened to my concerns, we pivoted where and when we needed to, and he wanted my feedback throughout the process. The outcome? I met the strength target I needed to reach for my desired activity AND my repaired hamstring tested stronger than the non-impacted hamstring. I trust John to have my best interests at the forefront of his approach to my care.”
FAQ

I do not meet in person (except those living in Spokane, WA ). While traditional physical therapy may be seen as what the therapist does TO YOU, my model of remote physical therapy prioritizes expert guidance, activity modifications, and increased communication between structured sessions.
Over years of clinical practice, I've found this model for the right patient can be a more efficient and cost-effective method of restoring function and reducing pain with daily and recreational activities.
-
Yes… and no. I provide different service options tailored to your individual needs. Services like the completed care plan often times are much cheaper than traditional insurance models. Hourly consultation and membership options are more expensive.
I also offer pro-bono and sliding scale options for eligible clients.

You'd be right for many situations in physical therapy! These are examples of the situations in which in-person care is unnecessary:
You already have a diagnosis
You need a second opinion on your case
You just had a surgery and need someone to guide you through the process
Hands-on manual therapy is nice to have but not something your prioritize
You find yourself asking your physical therapist questions vs. physically performing treatment
-
I do not.
-
I've intentionally built this process to be incredibly simple:
Schedule an initial consultation for free or book an hourly rate/2nd opinion appointment.
If you’ve booked the initial consultation, we’ll chat via Google Meet to see if we’re a good fit.
If you’ve booked the hourly rate/2nd opinion, payment is due on the day of service.
You'll be directed to our HIPAA secure patient portal for further instructions.
We work on your plan and achieve your physical therapy goals.
-
My only active physical therapy license is for Washington State.
Due to compact licensing, I CAN become licensed in other states for special requests. Your quoted price will reflect this request.
Please see https://ptcompact.org/ptc-states for more information.

Great observation! I would love to keep everything on one website, however, HIPAA compliance makes this more challenging.
Have no fear, I have a secure patient portal through Healthie, and I'll direct you to that specific website/app near our first call. We will be able to communicate via text, direct message, calls, or video visits.
